Andalucia - Puerto de Santa Maria

Many people when they go to Andalucia they go to Cadiz for a day or two to enjoy one of the oldest cities in Spain. But, there is a great alternative to staying there which can be costly at times. Going to stay at Puerto de Santa Maria is cheaper, and only a short ferry ride across the bay. It is a really pretty town, has some nice beaches and seafood locations and is a great place to run in the cool mornings. We had some great breakfasts there and it is a nice base to explore the surrounds as well.

We were lucky enough to be there on a festival night so we got some fun singing group performing while we had some tapas.
Getting warm with some wine and freshly cooked tapas

Maybe a good idea to get your wine by the litre, Mosto is even cheaper than petrol.....

Cadiz Pastries

When in Cadiz the liberterian city of Andalucia, I strongly recommend that you have an empty stomach and don't plan to diet. The pastries here are up there with some of the best around Spain I have found. Well priced too!

yes, it is a crazy baked marshmallow!

Maybe take your running shoes too so you can burn off some calories after the food!

Cadiz town

The pretty town of Cadiz in South Western Andalucia is the destination today, alas, it is only in a photographic sense. Going through some old photos from much, much earlier this year I found I still hadn't posted everything from Spain! Wow, that was 7 months ago... lazy. So, here is Cadiz the open minded and open streeted town the oldest continually inhabited city in Spain. Christopher Columbus sailed from here on his second and fourth voyages to explore the world, and has been a maritime favourite of the Spanish navy, merchants and invaders since. Enjoy.

I love catching people who look like they are posing, but actually aren't.
The market in Cadiz is great for fresh food, especially seafood.
I guess they are the same family as mussels and oysters.....

Not edible, but pretty

wild asparagus

Boquerones some of my favourite things.

most people come for a paper cone of these little shrimps cooked fresh and really lovely, although a little salty by the time you get to the end of the cone.

the end of the road here... or is it?
