Pszeniczne Naturalnie Mętne Product review.

Pszeniczne Naturalnie Mętne

  *Product Review*

Brewery: Okocim
Alcohol: 5%
Volume: 500ml
Cost: 4.20PLN
Apperance: Nicely golden orangey -yellow. The traditional cloud associated with wheat beers and also a decent head early on, that vanished quickly when drinking.

Aroma: Really fresh and creamy, some hint of  orange and lime citrus (especially after I added lime)
In the mouth:Really smooth, simple and a little hit of hoppiness towards the back of the palate and some peachy/apricoty sweetness
Drink with: Anything that you want on a sunny summers day. It is the perfect warm weather beer. Would be equally great with fruit as with fish. A great outdoors beer.
Overall:  Really nice and a beer I will buy more of.

Product Review Lwówek - Wrocławskie Pils

Lwówek - Wrocławskie Pils

  *Product Review*

Brewery: Browar Lwówek
Alcohol: 4.2%
Volume: 500ml
Cost: 2.30PLN

Apperance:
Golden and clear, almost with a greenish tinge to it. Fine delicate bubbles, but very poor head retention.

Aroma: Honey and sunshine, according to my wife, I get an almost metallic sharpness coming from the hops, and grassy undertones.
In the mouth: A little alcohol at the start but the rest is sharp and punchy, bitey even, with citrus flavours to it. Quite dry but not in a negative way and a distinctly hoppy sweet.

Drink with: This is real BBQ beer, the citrus would cut through the fat of a good sausage or chop.

Overall:
Never really have I been a huge fan of Pils, but this one is nice, then again I haven't drunk much beer.... oh hang on, that is all I did in Ireland but mostly ales and stouts so this could just be the awakening of my mouth to summer.

Miłosław Niefiltrowane

Miłosław Niefiltrowane

  *Product Review*

Brewery: Fortuna w Miłosławiu
Alcohol: 5.5%
Volume: 500ml
Cost: 2.99PLN

Apperance: A beautiful natural cloudiness to it. Bright amber/gold in colour.

Aroma: Hoppy, malty, creamy, and a little citrus coming through.
In the mouth: In the mouth it has a brief initial sweetness which soon turns to a rich honey and creaminess, some hops there but not so much. It ends up being a little grassy, plenty of malty goodness.
Drink with: A great one to have with Asian food especially things that are spicy and/or salty. A good summer beverage.

Overall:

Browar Parowy - Vetter *Product Review*

Browar Parowy - Vetter
  *Product Review*
Brewery:
Alcohol: 5.8%
Volume: 500ml
Cost: 2.89PLN

Apperance:
Long lasting head which stays for most of the glass, and I was drinking it slowly!

Aroma: There isn't really much on the nose here, and by that I mean it doesn't smell a great deal. This could be because of the thick head on the beer or just that it is a pretty cold beer.
In the mouth: It started off very, very hoppy and that was about all I could get. But, as the beer warmed up a little the malt sweetness came through.
Drink with: It would be something nice to drink with Mexican food, or maybe something like pasta with a tomato sauce. As it is so hoppy you need something with a some bite to compliment it.

Overall:
A pleasant beer, but really nothing special. The huge flavour of hops in here makes it nice enough to drink, but I don't think I could drink more than one.

Ksiazece - Czerwony Lager *Product Review*

Ksiazece - Czerwony Lager

*Product Review*

Brewery: Piwowarska
Alcohol: 6%
Volume: 500ml
Cost: 2.79PLN

Apperance:
Light brown almost pinky red. Light airy head that didn't last long.

Aroma: Hoppy, oaky tree sap, fresh green wood.

In the mouth:
Bitter, quite bitter, hints of honey, very dry in the back mouth, mustard seedy and herbaceous. But no lasting flavour at all.

Drink with:
The spiciest food you can find so that you don't actually have to taste it for long, and it is only used to put out the fire. If you have to drink it, make sure it is ice cold minimising impact on your delicate little taste buds.

Overall:
Rather disappointing after enjoying their dark beer recently. I'd say you will find better beers out there, in fact I tipped out half the bottle as I couldn't put myself through finishing it. Reminds me of Victoria Bitter in Australia. In other words, not good at all.

Ksiazece Product Review

Ksiazece - Ciemne Lagodne

*Product Review*

Brewery: Piwowarska
Alcohol: 4.1%
Volume: 500ml
Cost: 2.79PLN

Apperance:
Light brown head with good retention and a dark coffee colour better than many dark Polish beers.

Aroma: Oddly enough it is quite light on the aroma, that could be also because I served it very cold and it has such a good head retention. I could get a little raisin from it and the coffee smell of roasted malt and that was about it. But it wasn't over the top with aroma.

In the mouth:
Slightly metallic in the mouth feel, it has some coffee tart to it certainly plenty of malt flavour come through with coffee and a hint of honey. It was enjoyable after that small first hit of flavour. Even now 20 minutes after finishing it still lingers in my mouth in a positive way.

Drink with:
As this is a dark beer that is not too sweet it could be enjoyed with some rich roasted game like wild boar, or duck would be good. You could even try to enjoy it with a heavy rich coffee cake for dessert or maybe some dried fruit and matured cheese.

Overall:
Quite a good beer, it lasts long in the mouth and gives a well rounded flavour, the slightly strong metallic flavour at first can have its drawbacks, but the long coffee flavours and the slight honey sweetness make it well balanced.

Port and the Barossa

What is there to do at Port Adelaide other than shop at a dodgy second hand market (which I like doing by the way). Well you can always head to the lighthouse. No, I don't mean the actual nautical steel investment, although of course you could do that. I mean The Lighthouse Hotel. Forgive the rather sad website, as it is a great little place to have a bite to eat, well priced and good food. However the best thing is the beer. They brew their own and there are at least 6 on tap. I had a sampler when there which included:
Front to back: Honey Wheat beer, House Cider, Lighthouse Gingerbeer, Tusker Draft Rootbeer and the Archie dark ale
It was a nice thing to do in the middle of a beautiful sun shining day. So after that we went to the Brickworks markets, a place that when I was a child I enjoyed. Now, however, it is a slowly dying indictment of what has happened to many things that we more community oriented before people flocked to Shopping centres to buy things they really don't need and eat food they really shouldn't. It really is a shame, I hope someone takes control of it and really makes it into something great.

Instead of hanging around, we jumped back into the car to head to Brighton's Jetty Road strip where we grabbed a coffee and cake before a stroll on the jetty.
Some of us had too much fun eating.

And then put our feet up.

While I sipped my coffee

and ate my choc-mint hedgehog

Kerrin had an orange sponge cakey thing
On the jetty we could measure fish..... had anyone caught any of course.

Marty was just squinting instead

Some shared chips by the sea

The shark chopper was on patrol

As were seagulls looking for chips
Little Mali was more busy trying to look cute
Or at least sing a song.

The next day we jumped in with the sister and partner to hit the Barossa Valley. One of the fun places around Adelaide to taste wine.

Here we were surrounded by classic Australia

Even tin sheds to make it more classic, just needs a kelpie

Of course, pubs are classically Australian too.

There are many things to reflect on..... even tiles

I find it Australian that the museum looks like a pub
The Barossa is a great little day trip or even for the bigger drinker, a longer stay. It has around 170 wine companies and over 75 cellar doors that are open mostly 7 days a week. We only visited a few in probably one of the "most famous" brands Penfolds (where I recommend most things red that you can't sample with the exception of the Cellar Reserve Sangiovese), Rockfords (I recommend the Alicante Bouchet or Basket Press), Kellermeister (I recommend the Boots Cider and the 2008 Wicked Witch), and Kies (where I recommend the water and conversation with the lovely lady in the cellar door).
Somewhere I try to get to when in the Barossa is Rockford's Winery
To sample what they have lying about
And if the boss is happy, I can buy some :)

After lunch we moved onto the more serious side of things, Penfolds
Except not everyone seems to think I am serious.....
Robert Louis Stevenson once said "Wine is bottled poetry", which I could agree with as long as people think that poetry shouldn't be left to people in black skivvies sitting in a smoke filled room or drug induced haze telling others that they just "don't get it". Then again many wine snobs are a little like that.

Where as I prefer the words of Aristophanes which probably are most apt at the end of my blog post, where as he said

“Quickly, bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever.”

Alas, I have not wet my mind before this. Sorry reader.

Hitting the streets of GBorg - Produce to Port to Porter

After getting very excited by the produce that I saw, it was time to see what else we could locate in the city of Göteborg. As I may have mentioned previously, I have been to Göteborg before, some 13 years previous. All I remember was having fun in the Tivoli precinct and pretty Swedish girls. So now it is a chance maybe to be more cultural.... one would hope anyway.
Planning ahead.
Always a good idea especially if you know if you are in a city with a church and little houses.

Sea ports and flags, kind of goes like Pickles and Sausage

Unless all of a sudden the flags change format somewhat.

I liked the sad little puppy type creature. It reminds of some of the great pictures by a friend Klaudia who now lives in Malta in the sun!

The Mallard thinking about some manscaping

The cool kids

Even a squirrel needs an iPhone

So not all Swedish girls have great taste....

This one was for one of my students Zuz.

My door fetish kicks in again.

If you are going to make a bridge why not make the balustrades pretty?

Handy

Chicken bits

Shell free snail

That is a different shell.... but I am sure it is warm
Next we will stroll to the waterside of Göteborg to see what is about in the port.
